White Plains, NY
WESTCHESTER COUNTY BOARD CHAIRMAN RYAN INSTALLED AS
NYSAC PRESIDENT-ELECT
Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman William J.
Ryan (D, WFP-White Plains) was installed as 2009-2010
President-elect of the New York State Association of
Counties during NYSAC’s Annual Conference, held this week,
in Saratoga Springs. A former NYSAC board
director-at-large, Ryan was first elected to NYSAC’s
executive committee in 2007. Ryan is slated to serve as
NYSAC President from 2010 through 2011. “It’s an honor to
serve in this capacity,” said Chairman Ryan. “NYS needs to
recognize that its partnership with counties is critical to
ensuring service delivery to our residents. I am eager to
work with my colleagues in leadership to help county
officials across New York State by finding new ways to
operate efficiently and economically.” More
Ryan, a
Democrat and a former member of the New York State Assembly,
is the longest serving Chairman in the 40 year history of
the Westchester County Board of Legislators. First elected
Chairman in 2004, he is now in his sixth year as the
legislature’s presiding officer. He is in his twelfth year
as an elected member of the Board. Under Bill Ryan’s
leadership, the Board has approved measures to keep
Westchester’s 1 million residents safe and secure; to
protect water and air quality; to uphold our rights as
consumers; to re-develop our downtowns and strengthen our
economy; to create affordable housing for our workforce and
seniors; and to make government more efficient, economical,
transparent and accessible to the people.
“At this
time, when governments at all levels are faced with
unprecedented fiscal challenges, we are pleased to have a
dedicated leadership team that includes our new
president-elect William Ryan of Westchester County. Bill
brings a unique combination of county and state legislative
experience that will be invaluable to the statewide
association as it continues its advocacy efforts to protect
property taxpayers from financing more state and federal
programs at the local level,” said NYSAC Executive Director
Stephen J. Acquario.
NYSAC is
a bi-partisan municipal association that represents,
educates and advocates for all 62 member counties and the
thousands of elected and appointed county officials who
serve the public. The Association represents New York
counties before Federal, State and Local officials on
matters germane to county governments and informs its
membership and the public at large on issues of importance
to county governments.
