Milestone School’s Annual Winter Gala and Silent Auction a huge success

Once a year, parents of the students attending the legendary Milestone School in Mount Vernon are invited to the school’s Annual Winter Gala and Silent Auction. This year’s gala took place on Friday, January 27, and was held at the luxurious Davenport Country Club in New Rochelle, NY. The event was a huge success and was attended by 150 people.

“We do this every year as a way to celebrate the Milestone’s existence – this is our 32nd year. It is a way for our families to get together, because we have a wonderful community of families. And it also is a fundraiser too. This year we are looking to refurnish the outside area – so this is what the fundraiser is all about tonight,” said Angela Freeman, founder and head of school.

As the parents and others arrived for the event, they were all dressed impressively and were ready for a great time without the little ones. “Tonight is my first night out without the kids in a long time and my husband and I are having a wonderful time. I needed this,” said one excited mother.

Jarod Rice and Ian Ali acted as the Masters of Ceremonies. Rice, a New Rochelle Councilman and attorney, is a Milestone School alumni, whose son is now enrolled at the Milestone School.

Musical entertainment was provided by Sheila Batista, and the band, known as The AndJam Band, was absolutely terrific.

Before dinner, several people spoke, including Freeman. “My daughter, Samantha, joined me this past September and she is a dynamite teacher. I am also blessed to have such a wonderful staff,” said Freeman.

Raffles were sold throughout the entire evening and one luck winner won $5,000.

After dinner, the throng of guests flocked over to the area where impressive and valuable items were being auctioned off as part of the silent auction.

The relaxed crowd danced until the very end, enjoying the great sounds of The AndJam Band.
