International Russian classical pianist extraordinaire
Katya Grineva awes young students at Pennington Elementary School in Mount Vernon

On Thursday, May 14, a packed auditorium of students at Holmes Elementary School in Mount Vernon were treated to a special piano performance by Katya Grineva. And on Wednesday, May 27, the entire population of students and staff at Pennington Elementary School got their turn to witness a mesmerizing piano performance by the internationally famous Katya.
Unlike the performance that took place at Holmes
Elementary School earlier in the month, students from all grades attended the performance, including kindergarten.
"Here at Pennington we embrace the arts in a very big way in all grades. I believe children find a creative side of themselves through the arts. When they attend or perform in these types of activities, they develop a sense of confidence in themselves, along with compassion and humility. Our students attain higher grades as a result of them using their creative ability," said Bruce Purse, Music Director at
Pennington School.

Opening remarks came from the principal, Danielle D. Marrow, who said, "Ms. Grineva has performed throughout the world for presidents and dignitaries and last year played a record tenth solo performance at Carnegie Hall. We are so luck to have her here today."
The students were next addressed by Purse, who explained how fortunate they were to have such a famous pianist performing for them. Following his brief remarks, Purse then introduced Katya to the large audience of excited students and staff.
     Like at Holmes School, e
ach student was well versed on who Katya Grineva is and what a famous pianist she is. Prior to the big performance, each class had been supplied with handouts about the performance, which also contained a biography and pictures of Katya.

At the end of her impressive performance, Purse announced that Katya was willing to take questions from the students, and many raised their hands with questions.
Years ago, Katya's father, a well known cancer research scientist in Russia, introduced his daughter’s talents to a colleague, Dr. Mihich, of Albany, New York. Dr. Mihich so was mesmerized by Katya that he decided to present her with the exclusivity rights to perform Marcel Tyberg’s music. Dr. Mihich had been holding onto Tyberg’s “lost” music for years. So, with Katya’s help and passion, and New York City networking opportunities, she is bringing Tyberg’s music to the forefront.

Moscow-born pianist, Kayna, will be performing at Carnegie Hall on Friday, June 12, 2009, at 8:00 PM, in honor of Adi Da Samraj. Good news . . . children are FREE! If interested in attending, call Carnegie Hall for ticket information at: 212-247-7800, or you can order them online: www.carnegiehall.org. The tickets have been specially reduced in price for this performance.

A strong advocate for care and preservation of our oceans, clean water, our forests, nature and our planet, Katya is known to honor the natural phenomena “The Five Elements,” by selecting works that each portray the beauty of the planet on which we live. And
her performances have been described by the New York Times as "Liquid" and "Dreamlike."
