JLP helps renovate Family Services of Westchester office in Mt. Vernon

The Junior League of Pelham’s provisional class recently made over the reception area of the Family Services of Westchester office in Mt. Vernon. The update was the provisional class project, an essential part of the JLP’s volunteer training for incoming members. Pelham-based AG Williams Painting Company donated all paint services and supplies.

A grand re-opening and unveiling of the new space took place February 4 at the site, attended by more than 30 people, including Virginia Hartmere, President of the JLP.

The reception area upgrade will help Family Services of Westchester (FSW), which specializes in evaluation, treatment, education and counseling for families, couples and individuals, to better serve their clients and boost employee morale by providing a warm, uplifting atmosphere.

In addition to a new paint job courtesy of Pelham-based AG Williams Painting Company, the JLP’s makeover also included steam-cleaning the carpets as well as coordinating the donation of chairs, plants and magazine subscriptions. The class also created a children’s corner filled with both new and gently used toys, books and puzzles. Artwork, including black and white photos, a felt design and poems, by Darius Cousart, Christopher Muhammad-Cooper, Jeffrey Maitre and Meisha Nelson, students at Nelson Mandela High School in Mt. Vernon, adorn the walls of the new space,

The Junior League of Pelham is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.  Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Please visit www.jlpelham.org for more information.
