Mt. Vernon’s track star Breanda Crump to compete in the 2009 International Down Under Sports Track and Field Competition

Mount Vernon’s track star, Breanda Crump, has once again been invited to compete internationally at the 2009 International Down Under Sports Track and Field Competition, to be held in Australia this summer!
Crump was invited to attend the Games last year as a junior, but because of insufficient funds and injury, was not able to attend. However, this year, Breanda Crump has returned to the Track and Field Charts an even stronger, faster, more fit senior! Crump showed her renewed determination to rise back to the top of Section 1’s Track and Field charts during the cross country season where she led her teammates in each race and also received All – League Honors!
Moving into her season of Indoor Track and Field, Crump was determined to regain her #1 ranking in Section 1’s 600 meter run. Not only did she regain her #1 spot, but Crump re-introduced herself, after being offset by injury for two years, at Section 1’s kick off meet, held at the NYC’s New Balance Armory, shattering Mount Vernon High School’s 600 meter record (previously set by herself) of 1 minute 35.5 seconds, placing 1st, with a time of 1 minute 34.1 seconds!
Not yet completely satisfied, Crump promised the newspapers that she would take down the Section 1 record of 1 minute 33.7 seconds previously set in 2007. Only 1 week later, Crump returned to the New Balance Armory to compete in the Bishop Loughlin Games, re-broke the 600m run school record she had just set and ran right past the Section 1 record, taking it down in 1 minute 33.3 seconds, proving to be one of the best 600 meter runners in the State!
It seemed like Crump was going to set a new record each week as she entered the 600 yard run at the Pear River Holiday Festival the following week, taking 1st place yet again and setting a new Mount Vernon High School and Section 1 Record in 1 minute 25.3 seconds.
Moving on to the Brown University Invitational, held in Providence, Rhode Island, still driving to stay ahead, Crump took 1st place in the 500 meter run, and maintained her previously set Section 1 record and school record of 1 minute 15 seconds!  Still not done, Crump became champion in the 600 meter run and the 300 meter dash at the Section 1 League Championships and also placed 2nd in the 55 meter hurdles, a race she hasn’t competed in since her freshman year.
Most recently Crump anchored her 4 by 400 meter relay team to a 1st place finish at the Millrose Run-Offs, qualifying to compete at the prestigious 2009 Millrose Games held at Madison Square Garden! With only two indoor track and field meets left, Crump is heading on to the State Championships at Cornell University and then on to The Nike Nationals held at the NYC New Balance Armory!
