Terrie Williams guest speaker at Chamber's Annual
Secretaries Day Luncheon
Administrative Professionals Week is always the last
full week of April, with Wednesday of that week being
designated Administrative Professionals Day, or
Secretaries Day. Administrative Professionals Day
recognizes and celebrates the work of secretaries,
administrative assistants, and other office
professionals for their growing
and diverse contributions to the workplace. In the
United States, it is customary to take administrative
professionals out to lunch on this day, and/or to give
flowers or other gifts of appreciation.
On Wednesday, April 23, over 80 women attended a
celebratory luncheon in their honor at the Wartburg
Conference Center in Mount Vernon, led by Karen Thomas,
the Master of Ceremonies.
The popular event is a yearly function sponsored by the
Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, where participants are
provided with a sumptuous lunch and are showered with an
assortment of gifts donated by area companies.
As in previous years, the April 23 event was extremely
well attended and the guest speaker was Terrie Williams,
founder of the Stay Strong Foundation, author, lecturer
and youth advocate.
Thomas greeted the large crowd following the opening
remarks by Katrina Jones, who then introduced Williams.
Williams covered such topics as depression, hope, and
healing during her 15 minute speech, and also made it a
point to introduce her mother, Marie Williams.
The attendees participated in an exciting raffle, which
included fantastic prizes. Near the end of the event, a
rose and gifts were presented to each attendee.
The event was once again a resounding success, with
most of the participants
returning to their offices in high spirits after closing
remarks from Thomas.
