Mt. Vernon City School District Annual Art Show
impresses many
Mount Vernon has a long unique tradition of
supporting the arts in an effort to ensure that every
child has a strong foundation in fine arts. On Tuesday,
May 6, art work representing students throughout the
entire School District was on display at the Mount
Vernon Public Library for the public to view.
The student art show, known as "Visions of Excellence,"
attracted many to the library on the first day of the
major exhibit, which is scheduled to last through the
end of May.
"I can't believe how gifted our students are. This work
is absolutely marvelous," commented Lisa Rivera, a Mount
Vernon resident.
"The arts are an essential part of every students'
education. Our art classes enable our students to
capture their expressions, explore new ideas, and learn
about cultures around the world," said Angela Addesso,
Administrator for the Arts.
As evidenced by the exhibit, the public was able to see
that students' creative expressions were driven by both
their intellect and perspective on academics. The unique
masterpieces of the students was a form of communicating
and speaking to all those who viewed their work. Each
piece told a story, and expressed views on may aspects
of their lives as they learn and grow in this world.
"We must continue to find a strong place for the art
programs for our students in Mount Vernon City School
District to ensure that our students will continue to
receive exemplary instruction that is aligned with the
New York State Learning Standards for Art," said Addesso.
