Mt. Vernon, NY
ANGELA HALL -
FORMER BROADWAY PERFORMER TURNED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER DOING
BENEFIT GOSPEL CONCERT IN MOUNT VERNON
Proceeds to Benefit Graham
Elementary School Where She Has Taught for 15 Years
Teacher
and Gospel singer extraordinaire Angela Hall is being
featured in a benefit concert on Friday, October 23, 2009 at
Mount Vernon High School, located at 100 California Road,
Mount Vernon, N.Y.
The
concert is being sponsored by the Graham Elementary School
Parent Teacher Association to raise funds to purchase a new
sound system for the school’s auditorium. The school has
been in need of the new equipment for a long time. After
some of the Mount Vernon school community attended Angela’s
CD release party in New York City, word quickly spread and
the PTA seized the opportunity to present one of Mount
Vernon’s own in concert.
Angela
Hall is no ordinary school teacher. Her life journey reads
like a storybook. She is a native New Yorker who was born
and raised the ninth of ten children in the Red Hook
projects of Brooklyn. As a youngster, she sang in various
church choirs and later decided to pursue a career in the
performing arts. After receiving her BFA in Musical Theater
from the Boston Conservatory of Music, she went on to
perform in touring companies of ‘Little Shop of Horrors,”
“Tap Dance Kid” and “Big River.” She was featured on
Broadway in the Tony Award-winning play “Black and Blue” for
two years and continued on to work in film with
award-winning directors Spike Lee, Robert Altman, Anthony
Minghella, Denzel Washington and Tim Robbins. After a
successful 13 year performing career, the Lord called Angela
back to ministry – and she listened.
She has
been diligently serving in ministry for the past 17 years as
a member of the St Mary Church of God in Christ in Brooklyn
– where she has refined her musical gifts and deepened her
walk with the Lord.
After
moving back to the east coast Angela continued her education
and received both her MST in Elementary Education and her
MSE in Educational Administration. She is a master teacher
in the Mount Vernon School District. She has served as Drama
Coordinator of the Thornton School (back when it was an
elementary school), as Director of the Graham Elementary
Drama and Shakespeare After School Program, and
administrator of the ASPIRE After School Program.
Additionally, Angela serves as an adjunct professor at the
Mercy Graduate School of Education and served as a member of
the Mount Vernon Board of Education Leadership Achievement
Team under the leadership of Brenda Smith. As a school
teacher at Graham Elementary School in Mount Vernon, she
continues to create a legacy of educational wealth for both
her students and the Mount Vernon School District.
Her
current CD titled ‘Beautiful God” on the IMOK Gospel Music
record label is a blessing to the Gospel and Christian music
community. Angela’s unique delivery of worship, testimony
and praise to God is unlike any heard in the gospel genre of
music. Hand-clapping, toe-tapping and inspirational rhythms
flow from beginning to end.
